A2/B1 - Practice -ed pronunciation with common verbs
Hello, my lovely people!
Today I have a special activity to help you improve your English pronunciation. We are going to practise how to pronounce the -ed ending in regular verbs. In English, it can be pronounced in three different ways: /ɪd/, /t/, or /d/.
Quick Pronunciation Guide
| Sound | Rule | Examples |
|---|---|---|
| /ɪd/ | Extra syllable. Verbs ending in /t/ or /d/. | wanted, needed |
| /t/ | No extra syllable. Verbs ending in /p, k, f, s, ch, sh/. | stopped, watched |
| /d/ | No extra syllable. Verbs ending in vowels or /n, r, v, l/. | cleaned, loved |
