A2/B1 - Practice -ed pronunciation with common verbs

Hello, my lovely people!

Today I have a special activity to help you improve your English pronunciation. We are going to practise how to pronounce the -ed ending in regular verbs. In English, it can be pronounced in three different ways: /ɪd/, /t/, or /d/.

Quick Pronunciation Guide

Sound Rule Examples
/ɪd/ Extra syllable. Verbs ending in /t/ or /d/. wanted, needed
/t/ No extra syllable. Verbs ending in /p, k, f, s, ch, sh/. stopped, watched
/d/ No extra syllable. Verbs ending in vowels or /n, r, v, l/. cleaned, loved
