B1 - Formal or informal?
  New

Hello, my lovely people! Today I’m bringing you an interactive activity to practise something very important in English: the difference between formal and informal language.

Think about this: you don’t dress the same way for work as you do when you are at home with friends, right? Language works in a similar way. We don’t use the same expressions in a professional email as in a message to a friend.

For example, it does not sound the same to say "Best regards" and "Cheers", or "Could you tell me, please?" and "Hang on a sec."

What is this game about?

I have prepared a game called “Formal or Informal?” In this activity, you will classify common expressions according to the correct register. With this activity, you will:

  • Recognise typical expressions from each register.
  • Become more confident choosing the right tone.
  • Communicate more naturally depending on the situation.

💬 Final challenge: Write in the comments one pair of expressions with the same meaning: one formal and one informal.

For example: Could you help me? (formal) / Can you help me? (informal)

Let’s build our list together. 🙂

See you,
Yoci Teacher
