How’s your summer going? I hope you’re recharging your batteries, soaking up the sunshine and, of course, making some time for English. As always, I’m here with useful, engaging and interactive activities to keep your learning on track.
Many of you have told me you’re enjoying a bit of gastro-tourism in English-speaking countries this summer, so today’s post will be right up your street: food idioms in English.
English is full of colourful food-related expressions, even when they have absolutely nothing to do with eating.

What are we going to do?
In this activity, you will:
-
Read authentic sentences containing food idioms.
Choose the correct meaning from several options.
-
Learn how to use them appropriately in context.
-
Practise pronunciation and intonation. The activity includes audio in both the questions and the answers, so make the most of it to refine your prosody and rhythm.

B) She took on more than she could handle.
C) She didn’t have time to eat.
The correct answer is B. Did you get it right?
If you prefer working on paper, you can download the PDF below and annotate it with your own notes and examples.
💬 Final challenge: Answer these questions in English in the comments:

- Did you repeat the audio to improve your pronunciation and intonation?
I’d love to read your reflections.
See you soon,
Yoci Teacher
